Honolulu – The Honolulu Symphony Toyota Pops will present an inspiring world premiere on October 3 and 4: the all-new orchestral arrangements for Amy Hanaiali‘i’s critically-acclaimed release, “‘Aumakua.” Maestro Matt Catingub and Hawaiian music superstar Amy Hanaiali‘i will re-unite on the Toyota Pops stage for this eagerly-anticipated event that features beautiful new charts written by Catingub. Generously sponsored by Horizon Lines, the concerts at the Blaisdell Concert Hall will also showcase many of Hanaiali‘i’s most beloved songs, all orchestrated by Catingub.
Aumakua, which means “family guardian” in Hawaiian, is Hanaiali’i’s ninth album and features 14 new compositions. These compositions are the centerpiece for Hanaiali’i’s upcoming world tour and her concerts with the Toyota Pops offer the very first opportunity to enjoy the beautiful symphonic arrangements live. Tickets are currently on sale and start from $20.
Produced by the award-winning team of Allen Sviridoff and Catingub, “‘Aumakua” was released worldwide on August 26, 2008. It is a combined English-Hawaiian project and encompasses the spirituality of guardians, ancestry, and music. Hanaiali‘i’s Hoku Award-winning falsetto-infused vocals offer a reverent assemblage of original songs and beloved, time-honored classics. In a sweet, melodious style that is all her own, Hanaiali‘i honors her family’s ‘aumakua and her grandmother, revered entertainer Jennie Napua Woodd of Moloka‘i, her own personal guardian.
